Another St. Patty's

Once again, friend gathered to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, only this year we met a few days before March 17th. Since St. Patty's falls on a Monday this year, getting together on a Saturday seemed like a better idea. Leah and I hosted in '06 and '07, and this year our friends Bob and Vanessa (and Madeline) graciously offered their home.

Once again, the liquor and limericks were flowing. As the designated "archivist" for the limericks, I would like to present this year's installments:

Busy Month

This has been a busy month, and I've fallen behind on my journal entries. So here's a quick run-down of all that's been going on:

New Car - At the beginning of the month, I finally got myself a new car. I've been looking at Acuras and Volvos for the past year. My old Honda Accord was over 10 years old. It's the only car Leah has ever seen me drive. After saving money for a downpayment, I test drove some cars over Christmas Break, and talked to AAA's car broker service to avoid dealing directly with slimy salesmen. It was an easy transaction, and I wound up with the exact type of car I was looking for: 2006 Acura TL with Navigation System and 10,800 miles. Sweet ride! CLICK HERE to go to Acura's website and learn more about the TL.

Jake's First Haircut - Last weekend Jake got his first haircut. I've been admiring his curls for quite some time, and hated to see them go. However, he was getting to the point where his hair was knotting and getting difficult to control. You can see the movie about it HERE, or view PHOTOS of the event, too.

St. Patty's Day - Once again, we hosted the Donelan annual St. Patty's Day dinner. We had ten people over to help us feast on boiled meats and veggies, drink, and read limericks. It was good to see two couples who missed the last few years, Tim and Holly, and Vanessa and Bob. Matthew brought his girlfriend Judy this year, which made for a good limerick topic. Everyone came through and brought limericks to share, and I have been archiving everyone's contributions for the past few years. Here's LAST YEAR'S LIMERICKS that I posted. And here's this year's entries:

Limericks, anyone??

Last night we rekindled our annual tradition of St. Patty's Day dinner. It all started many years ago, when my (Irish) friend Matthew would host a an authentic St. Patty's dinner for friends, complete with corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots (all BOILED, of course), soda bread, Bailey's, Guinness beer, Jameson Whiskey, etc. The numbers ranged from a mere 2 one year to 15 people another year. I have been lucky enough to know Matthew for almost 20 years now, and have been to about 10 St. Patty's dinners. You see, Matthew has a habit of accepting jobs in other states, and without him we are left to fend for ourselves on St. Patty's Day. He's the glue that keeps us together. Last year he was living in Albuquerque, NM. He just moved back this week, so we restarted our St. Patty's Day dinner, with Leah and I hosting the party.

Back in 1999, I came up with some limericks to bring to the party that kinda 'roasted' those in attendance. It was such a hit that we started the tradition that each year we had to bring a limerick to share after dinner. I started compiling the limericks to keep as an archive.

And now, for the very first time, the infamous St. Patty's Day limericks are now available right here....
