One of the highlights of my week is checking eMusic and iTunes on Tuesdays. That's the day that new CDs are released. Over the past year I've eagerly anticipated new music from some of my favorite artists.
Some "day they went on sale" purchases I've made include: Matisyahu "Youth", Prince "Rainbow Children", Eminem "Hits", Neil Young "Living with War", Ursula 1000 "Here Comes Tomorrow", and Nelly Furtado "Loose".
This week was no exception, because Beck's new album came out Tuesday. I bought his last two releases, Guero and Guerolito, the day they went on sale, too. I had heard about his new album in a WIRED Magazine article last month. He talked about the future of the music industry and how he's pushing the envelope of distributing his music.
Needless to say, I was looking forward to buying this new release..and NOT on iTunes, because I wanted a "hard copy" of the disc. Good thing, too, because when I opened the packaging, there was no album art, but instead a booklet of stickers. Each person can create their own album cover art by applying the (somewhat weird) images onto the CD insert any way possible. What you see here is the result of a late-night sticker session while listening to the CD for the 4th time that day.
While we're on the subject of Beck, it's also worth noting that his official website is one of the coolest sites around: http://www.beck.com/ . Check it out!
